Lock down after lockdown, strict rules, separated from family and friends and regular routines thrown out the window are all disrupting factors to a child’s mental health.

Dubbed the ‘Covid generation’, research has shown an increase of up to 47% in the levels of stress and anxiety in Australian children since the onset of the pandemic in 2020. Prior to Covid-19, research had already shown that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can have an impact not only on the development of a child, but also on their mental and physical wellbeing as an adult.

So how can parents and services keep the Covid generation safe from the ACE?

In this pre-recorded webinar Program Coordinator and Registered Psychologist Hillary Milton from Child Abuse Prevention Service (CAPS) teaches parents and educators simple strategies to help children cope with the increased anxiety caused from the pandemic.

With close to 20 years experience in child psychology, Hillary applies a practical and strengths-based approach to teaching emotionally aware parenting skills. In this webinar she will guide you through:

  • The definition of an ACE and how trauma impacts children in seven different ways.
  • Four protective factors that can have a positive influence on a child’s wellbeing and functioning.
  • The therapeutic benefits of storytelling to support children and meet their needs.
  • A practical example of how the story The Very Brave Bear can be used to discuss different emotions with children.

This webinar can be shared with your team or form part of your parent communication program.
