1 in 5 children under 6yrs have development vulnerabilities.

That’s why in 2015 the HubHello founders created Healthy Australia - a not-for-profit ACNC registered charity, that provides access to software solutions which promote safe, healthy and educational outcomes for Australian children.

Join our community to help protect the innocence of children

Without protective factors in place, many children will become physically, emotionally and socially vulnerable.

17 year gap: Theory to practice

The research and evidence on early childhood development is clear. The gap between what we know works and delivering that practice on the ground is approximately 17 years.

High risk: Vulnerable communities

Children living in poverty are much more likely to experience trauma and disruption. Unfortunately indigenous children are also at a higher risk, with 2 in 5 having development vulnerabilities.

Under the radar: Lower risk children

Without readily available tools to support services and educators, vulnerable children that fall below the mandatory reporting threshold may fly under the radar.

Whitepaper

A framework for complex community commissioning

The outcomes for children in Australia are trending in the wrong direction. Fortunately, the research points to a new way of working that can deliver all Australian children out of the intergenerational cycle of disadvantage.

To successfully apply the research on complex community health and social issues, we need a robust and nuanced framework that can adopt the evidence within the unique local context.

This white paper captures the body of research that has informed the design of the framework and a 3 year pilot.

Our approach

The local context within each community is unique.

That’s why we work together with each local community to co-create solutions that deliver better and sustainable development outcomes for their children.

Our mission and key goals

Our mission by 2030 is to reduce educational vulnerability by 50% by promoting every child’s safety, health and education.

To achieve this mission our advocacy programs seek to:

  • Improve access to local, safe, quality early childhood education and care services for pre-school children.
  • Provide access to tools for the early childhood education and care sector that promote safe, health and educational outcomes.
  • Provide Early Childhood Education and Care services with a referral pathway to early intervention for vulnerable families and children

Strengthening resilience between four systems

By strengthening resilience within the following four systems we can enable communities to thrive together:

  1. Family system: Empower parents to design and execute practical solutions to the challenges they face as parents.
  2. Community system: Engage with local communities to understand the reasons why children are not accessing early childhood education and care services.
  3. Early Education and Care System: Provide tools to the ECEC sector in order that they can build capacity and capability in response to the unique needs of each child.
  4. Local support service system: Facilitate the development of an interagency local pathway of early intervention support for children and parents as required locally.

Frequently asked questions.

What is an adverse childhood experience?

While risk and stress is a part of learning and developing, there are some experiences that have been shown to have long term impacts on children’s health and wellbeing. Stress can be viewed as positive (first day of school), tolerable (death of a pet) or toxic.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are a stressful or traumatic event that a child has experienced during their childhood. ACEs can have an impact on the development of a child, as well as on their mental and physical wellbeing as an adult.

Does a Safe assessment replace mandatory reporting?

No, Safe is not a replacement for mandatory reporting; you are still obliged to make mandatory reports where appropriate. Safe is an early intervention tool that can assist services in providing support to vulnerable children before they reach the mandatory reporting threshold.

The Safe assessments may not be at the mandatory report level threshold on their own however, in conjunction with observations from other educators and services, combined they could increase the risk level.

The Safe assessment report and feedback provided by CAPs Case Review Specialists can also be included in mandatory report submissions where additional information is required.
